Exceptional road transport can seriously compromise road safety because of its size and weight. It can also interfere with the rest of the traffic.
For these reasons, most Member States require that an exceptional road convoy be accompanied by an escort car that guarantees the visibility of Exceptional Transport.
Each transport is also equipped with a main escort present on the whole itinerary and a local support assistant who intervenes locally in the case of particularly difficult sectors for the convoy.
